U15 – Making history
After ending the regular season at the top of the table, our U15 team went to Yutz to play the finals of the Alsace-Lorraine league. With a temperature around 18°, cloudy but no rain and an excellent pitch, the conditions were perfect for good rugby. These finals were played like in the major leagues with semi-finals where the 1st in the table faces the 4th and the 2nd faces the 3rd in 2 x 10 minutes games. According to the season results, our opponent in the semi-final was Illkirch with whom we had a 0-0 draw in the only game played this season. Semi-final Luxembourg 0 – Illkirch 0 (4-3 in drop kicks) This was a good game with very good discipline and two good teams trying their best to reach the final. Most of the first half was spent with alternate actions in each midfield with both teams defending too well to allow the opposition opportunities to score. Towards the end of the first half, we managed a breakthrough and placed the game close to the opposition score line where we had several scoring opportunities from 5m line-outs, penalties and scrums. A combination of ferocious defence from Illkirch, dubious decisions from our boys and half time whistled when we had a 5 meters scrum, meant the score didn’t change. The second half was almost all Luxembourg as we camped in the opposition half for most of the time but Illkirch kept their brave defence and we never found a solution to get points. The final whistle arrived with 0-0. Not scoring, we putted ourselves in a difficult position as the winner had to be decided in the lottery of drop kicks. If there is such a thing as the “luck of champions” we had it, missing 1 drop out of 5 where Illkirch missed 2. It was a game pleasant to watch with very good discipline and a bit of emotion with two good teams trying their best to reach the final. At the end, Illkirch boys could found themselves unlucky loosing in such conditions after a very good defensive display but it was still the best team who went to the final.

CSCE Under-12’s shine in England and are admitted to the Kent Junior Rugby Union League for the 2009 |

Monday, 27 April 2009 |
| CSCE under-12’s rugby team travelled to the UK last weekend for two days of rugby against first-class opposition. Saturday saw CSCE pitted against the juniors from Premiership club London Saracens in two closely fought friendly matches (tries only, without conversions). CSCE started the first match well, despite playing immediately after their long car journey, finishing the first half 2-1 up. Saracens fought back hard in the second half however, so that the final score was 2-4 in favour of the hosts. The second match, against Saracens reserve team, was a different matter, with CSCE rucking well and scoring some excellent long tries down the lines to go 5-0 up at half time, so that despite Saracens bringing back several strong first team players for their pack in the second half, the final score was 6-0 to CSCE. And as on so many other occasions when touring the UK, CSCE found their host’s hospitality to be superb, with the two clubs agreeing that Saracens will visit Luxembourg (for the first time), next season. |

The final game against Croatia was won by the Luxembourg 24 to 19 in Hyères. The young Luxembourg players have perfectly played against Croatia. Luxembourg played with gthe wind and scored rapidly 3 tries in first half to lead 19 to 5 at half time. The second half was difficult against the wind but the defense played a wonderful second half. Very good victory to promote to the Group C next year with a yoiung team. The Grand Duc Henri was there to give the cup of the winner with the President Jean-Claude Baqué. |
